BRIEF: Jerry Neuheisel, Kene Orjioke won't return to UCLA football team

Nov. 19--UCLA quarterback Jerry Neuheisel and linebacker Kene Orjioke, both redshirt juniors, will not return to play for the Bruins next season, Coach Jim Mora said.

Neuheisel, the son of former UCLA quarterback and head coach Rick Neuheisel, is expected to remain in the program as a graduate assistant.

"I don't expect he will go very far," Mora said, indicating Neuheisel would stay with the program.

Neuheisel has spent the past three seasons as a backup quarterback -- to Brett Hundley in 2013 and 2014 and to Josh Rosen this season. His biggest moment came in rallying the Bruins to a 20-17 victory over Texas last season

After Hundley left the game with an elbow injury, Neuheisel completed 23 of 30 passes for 178 yards and two touchdowns. He connected with Jordan Payton on a 33-yard touchdown pass with three minutes left to give the Bruins the lead.

Orjioke's promising career was disrupted by a severe knee injury in the fourth game of the 2014 season. He has 17 tackles in nine games this season.
