BRIEF: Jennifer Hudson wants to return to 'American Idol' for finale

Dec. 14--Chicago singer-turned-actress Jennifer Hudson said she would like to appear on "American Idol" next year for the singing competition's series finale.

"I hope to be a part of the 'Idol' finale, the final show. I'm kind of sad to see it go because it's been a part of our homes. Each of us in America, you know what I mean? So, it's going to be sad to see it go but I hope to be a part of the farewell," Hudson told E! last week.

Hudson, 34, came in seventh in the third season of the Fox show in 2004. She went on to star in "Dreamgirls," which earned her an Oscar for best supporting actress in 2007. She recently made her Broadway debut in "The Color Purple."

"Some of the 'Idol' family was in the audience tonight," Hudson said last week at the "The Color Purple" opening. "(Longtime 'Idol' producer) Nigel (Lythgoe) was there. I was like, 'Oh my God, there's so many people that helped build my career sitting in this audience tonight,' which was kind of creepy and overwhelming, but I was like, 'Ahh--I don't want to look at the audience.'"

Season 15 of "American Idol" is scheduled to premiere at 7 p.m. Jan. 6.
