Oct. 09--The Chicago Cubs conducted a casual workout Thursday in preparation for their National League Division Series.
But at third base, Javier Baez was fielding grounders at game speed.
"I'm really relaxed when I play, but at third base, it's all about reaction," Baez said. "I told the coaches to hit me balls hard to work on my reaction and see what's going on."
Baez is known for his versatility and power, and there's a slight chance he could be used sooner rather than later Saturday in Game 2 of the NLDS because the Cardinals are starting left-hander Jaime Garcia.
"We'll see when the day comes," Baez said. "I'm ready for everything. Whoever is not starting is ready to come in."
