Dec. 08--While Chicago Cubs fans await the highly expected acquisition of a starting pitcher, one of the more popular teammates has departed.
The Colorado Rockies announced Tuesday morning that they've signed former Cubs reliever Jason Motte to a two-year contract. Multiple reports stated that Motte will receive $10 million.
Motte, 33, was one of the most effective relievers for the Cubs before suffering right shoulder soreness in August. Motte posted a 0.78 ERA in 26 games from May 16 to July 22 that started with 10 2/3 scoreless innings covering 13 appearances.
Motte took over the closer duties from Hector Rondon on a temporary basis and posted an 0.93 ERA in 11 games in June.
But he posted a 10.38 ERA during a 12-game stretch from July 24 to Aug. 19 and went on the disabled list five days later.
Motte led Cubs relievers with eight wins and limited opponents to a .208 batting average with runners in scoring position.
