Sept. 03--August was a month to remember for Chicago Cubs pitcher Jake Arrieta and third baseman Kris Bryant.
Arrieta, who pitched a no-hitter Sunday at Los Angeles to cap a 6-0 record and 0.43 ERA in six starts in August, Thursday was named the National League pitcher of the month. Arrieta allowed two earned runs on 19 hits while striking out 43 in 42 1/3 innings.
Bryant, who hit .330 with seven home runs, 20 RBIs and a .622 slugging percentage, was named the NL's rookie of the month.
They are joined by Pittsburgh center fielder Andrew McCutchen, who was named as the league's player of the month after batting .348 with five home runs, 18 RBIs and 19 runs in August.
