May 16--It would be a pitching duel for the record books.
One Las Vegas sports book favors Cubs ace Jake Arrieta and White Sox counterpart Chris Sale to win their league's respective Cy Young awards, which would mark the first time one baseball market claimed both pitching trophies.
On Monday, the Westgate Las Vegas Superbook set Arrieta's odds to win the National League Cy Young at 2-1, tied with the Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw. Arrieta won last season's award and has a 7-0 record and 1.29 ERA after eight starts this season.
Chris Sale (8-0, 1.67) stands alone among AL pitchers at 5-7 odds to win the award. Teammate Jose Quintana joins a four-way tie in second place at 15-1 odds.
Chicago once missed having simultaneous Cy Young winners by a year in the 1980s. The Cubs' Rick Sutcliffe won the NL award in 1984, and a season later the White Sox's LaMarr Hoyt won the AL award.
Meanwhile, Westgate gives Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo a 3-1 chance to win this season's NL MVP. Nolan Arenado (Rockies) and Bryce Harper (Nationals) are favored at 11-4.
