BRIEF: Investigators find evidence in search of Marquette Park Lagoon

July 21--Chicago investigators have found evidence in Marquette Park Lagoon related to their search for the remains of a woman who police were told may have been killed by her boyfriend, police said.

Last week, Police Marine Unit divers searched the eastern portion of the lagoon near California Avenue, just north of 71st Street. Detectives had begun investigating after they received a tip that a man may have killed his girlfriend, cut up her body and dumped it in the water, according to a law enforcement source with knowledge of the search.

Investigators have found evidence in the lagoon, Officer Thomas Sweeney, a police spokesman, said Monday, adding that he did not have additional details about what evidence was found or when.

Police had at least part of the lagoon drained to conduct the search, the source said last week.

A spokesman for the Cook County medical examiner's office did not immediately have information about whether any human remains were found in the lagoon.
