BRIEF: International Star scratched from Kentucky Derby

May 02--REPORTING FROM LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The field for the 141st Kentucky Derby continued to shrink when International Star was scratched Saturday morning.

International Star had arrived at Churchill Downs as the leader in the Kentucky Derby point standings, but was scratched because of a quarter crack in his hoof.

"It's a devastating blow to come this far," owner Ken Ramsey said. "I thought I had a decent shot at winning the race. But it happened to A.P. Indy and a lot of other horses before."

The field for Saturday's race is now 18, including favorite American Pharoah and stablemate Dortmund, both trained by Bob Baffert.

Three horses were scratched from the original 20-horse field.

Stanford was scratched Thursday and replaced by Frammento. El Kabeir was scratched Friday after the deadline that would have allowed for a replacement.

International Star had drawn the No. 12 starting position. His removal triggered another shift in starting positions.

The No. 1 spot along the rail remains open and all others will slide one spot to the left.

American Pharoah originally drew post position 18. He will now start from 16 and will have 14 horses to his left.
