BRIEF: No bail for inmate accused of hiring hit man in murder case

Jan. 18--A Cook County Jail inmate who allegedly tried to hire a hit man to kill three witnesses in his murder case was denied bail Saturday in a Cook County court.

Devon Stidwell, 19, of the 1500 block of East Embassy Lane in Ford Heights, has been held without bail since September on a murder charge.

On Saturday, Judge Adam Bourgeois Jr. told Stidwell, who wore a red Department of Corrections jumpsuit in court, "You do pose danger."

After hearing Stidwell was trying to hire a contract killer, the sheriff's office said, an undercover sheriff's officer met with Stidwell posing as a hit man.

Stidwell met on two occasions with the officer at the jail, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Mary Hain.

He described the house of the witnesses, who were two high school-age girls and a male, Hain said.
