BRIEF: Injury woes mount for Northwestern

Nov. 07--As expected, Northwestern will be short-handed when it takes on Michigan on Saturday at Ryan Field.

Three of its speediest players -- receiver Miles Shuler and running back/receivers Solomon Vault and Stephen Buckley -- are out with undisclosed injuries.

Safety Ibraheim Campbell (hamstring) is questionable, as is defensive tackle Chance Carter (leg). Three more defensive players -- starting tackles Greg Kuhar and C.J. Robbins plus linebacker Chi Chi Ariguzo -- are listed as probable on the NU injury report.

NU coach Pat Fitzgerald said Monday that he has had to cut practices short -- sacrificing length for intensity -- with so many players unavailable to suit up.

Linebacker Collin Ellis (concussion) remains out, with Fitzgerald saying Wednesday: "Colin is in as good of a place as he can be. He was hard on himself the last couple of weeks. He feels he has to do more with (linebacker) Anthony (Walker) and, to me, that's a guy where it's really important to him."
