Nov. 03--A bat that recently tested positive for rabies in Azusa has spurred a warning of possible exposure to the public.
Los Angeles County public health officials issued a warning after the bat was found and tested last week, asking anyone who may have come into "direct physical contact with this or any other bat" to see their doctor and get evaluated for possible "post-exposure anti-rabies treatment," according to a notice posted in Azusa.
The injured bat was found Oct. 25. A county health official tested the bat and found it had rabies.
Anyone who finds a sick or dead bat, or is bitten by an animal, should call L.A. County's veterinary public health office at (213) 989-7060 or animal control at (626) 962-3577.
Although most bats in nature don't have rabies, authorities are suggesting as a precaution that the public not touch them.
