Nov. 12--IndyCar racing legend A.J. Foyt had successful coronary triple-bypass surgery Monday in Houston, his team said.
After Foyt was admitted to Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center on Friday with intermittent chest pains, tests revealed blockages in arteries where Foyt had several stents from past procedures, the team said.
Foyt, 79, was expected to remain in the hospital through Monday.
One of three drivers to win the Indianapolis 500 four times, Foyt now owns an IndyCar team with drivers Takuma Sato and, starting next year, Jack Hawksworth. The team's manager is Foyt's son Larry.
Foyt, a Houston native known as "Super Tex," has had a variety of physical problems in recent years.
Last year he underwent back surgery and had his left hip and right knee replaced. And two years ago, he had a serious staph infection after surgery to remove bone spurs in his artificial left knee.
