BRIEF: Illinois takeaways

Nov. 02--Bolting Buckeyes: Ohio State scored on its first possession of the game, just as it had done the previous five games. Illinois has led only twice at halftime all season, and trailed 31-0 against the Buckeyes at the break.

Dudek the Dude: Receiver Mikey Dudek set a team record on a 56-yard catch in the first quarter. The speedster broke the freshman season receiving record held by Arrelious Benn, who recorded 676 yards in 2007. Dudek needed just 38 yards entering the game to pass Benn.

Great vision: One of Illinois' hopes was that the Buckeyes would be looking ahead to next weekend's showdown against Michigan State. But the Buckeyes looked focused -- or the Illini looked overmatched.

Beckman punished: Illinois coach Tim Beckman was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct in the second quarter after appearing to argue with an official about a non-call on a possible roughing the punter against Ohio State. Last week against Minnesota, Beckman also got in trouble with the officials when he threw his headset.

Looking ahead: The Illini have their second off week before facing Iowa at home on Nov. 15.
