May 11--Running back Marshaun Coprich, who helped lead Illinois State to the Football Championship Subdivision title game in the 2014 season, is facing a felony drug charge and has been suspended from the team indefinitely.
According to McLean County (Ill.) Circuit Court records, Coprich was charged last week with delivery of more than 10 but less than 30 grams of marijuana. Coprich was released on $2,025 bail and his arraignment on the Class 4 felony charge was scheduled for May 22.
"Marshaun has been suspended, effective immediately," Redbirds football coach Brock Spack said in a statement, citing a violation of team rules. "Though we are disappointed that he is in this situation, we will let the process continue before a final decision is made."
Coprich, a 5-foot 9, 205-pound senior from Victorville, Calif., earned All-America honors last season after setting school records with 2,274 rushing yards and 27 touchdowns.
Illinois State finished 13-2 last season, losing 29-27 to North Dakota State in the national championship game Jan. 10 in Frisco, Texas.
