BRIEF: Illinois freshman linebacker reportedly faces sexual battery charge in Georgia

Nov. 14--Illinois freshman linebacker Julian Jones will remain in Champaign County Jail until he can be transported to his home state of Georgia to face criminal charges.

Jones, 18, appeared before a Champaign County judge Friday and waived extradition, agreeing to return to Georgia. He has been charged with aggravated sexual battery and simple assault in Cobb County, Ga., according to the Champaign News-Gazette.

In announcing the indefinite suspension of Jones in a news release Wednesday night, Illinois said the alleged crime occurred during the open weekend on the schedule Oct. 16-18.

Jones will remain suspended from the team while his case is investigated. He has played in eight games this season, mostly on special teams.
