BRIEF: Illinois builds on football recruiting class

Dec. 09--Being bowl-bound has its benefits.

Illinois received the 16th and 17th oral commitments for the Class of 2015 on Sunday, the day the Illini learned they will play Louisiana Tech in the Heart of Dallas Bowl.

Julian Jones, who is listed as an athlete from Atlanta, is rated as a two-star player by recruiting services.

Jones originally had committed to play at Arkansas State. He's projected to play the star position on defense, which is a hybrid of a safety and linebacker, or a tight end on offense.

The Illini also received a commitment from junior college guard Connor Brennan. He plays at City College of San Francisco and is also rated as a two-star player.

Both players visited the Illinois campus over the weekend to seal the commitment.
