BRIEF: Illinois basketball court damaged by storm water

Oct. 29--Inches of storm water poured into State Farm Center early Tuesday morning and may have significantly damaged the Illinois basketball court.

The court condition is being evaluated, but a news release said that damage will not disrupt the Illinois basketball season, which begins on Nov. 7 for an exhibition game against Quincy. If needed, the team has secured an alternate playing surface, which was not identified in the release.

The team practices in a separate facility.

The court has been taken apart and raised on wood blocks to assist in drying it.

A storm line blockage inside the State Farm Center, which is currently being renovated, caused water to back up into the building and reach court level. Construction workers provided immediate cleanup and water removal and installed fans to help dry the concrete floor.
