BRIEF: Illini lose, gain football commits

Feb. 01--After linebacker T.J. Neal decided to transfer for his final year of eligibility, the linebacker corps looked thin. Illinois did something about it.

After a rash of decommitments, Illinois picked up a solid one on Monday with the oral pledge from De'le Harding out of Maryland.

He's ranked 23d nationally and was the highest rated position player on their list of rosters. He also considered Michigan.

Illinois lost one offensive tackle and picked up another on Monday.

As national signing day nears on Wednesday, Illinois has found itself on the losing end of commitments who have changed their minds. The latest was offensive tackle Tre Johnson, from Orlando, who decommitted from Illinois and has given an oral commitment to Miami, according to 247sports.com.

He is rated as a three-star recruit and ranked 93rd nationally at his position, according to the recruiting web site.

Illinois also on Monday received a commitment from three-star offensive tackle Eddy Fish out of Massachusetts. He also visited Boston College before pledging to Illinois.
