BRIEF: Identity released of one of two brothers killed at East L.A. park

Nov. 24--Authorities on Monday identified one of the two brothers who were fatally shot while playing basketball at a public park in East Los Angeles.

Antonio Aguilar, 33, of Palmdale was pronounced dead at Ruben F. Salazar Park in the 3800 block of Whittier Boulevard about 11 a.m. Sunday, according to the Los Angeles County coroner's office.

His brother was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the Sheriff's Department. Family members identified the brother as 28-year-old Juan Aguilar, according to KTLA-TV.

Witnesses told sheriff's homicide investigators that three people -- an adult man, an adult woman and a male youth approached the brothers and had a brief conversation, sheriff's Deputy Juanita Navarro-Suarez said.

At some point, the adult male pointed a handgun at the two brothers and opened fire, Navarro-Suarez said. All three suspects ran from the scene, fleeing toward Ditman Avenue, she said.

No weapon was found at the scene. No motive for the slayings has been released.
