BRIEF: House fire in Orange County spreads; pack rat conditions reported

Feb. 13--"Extremely packed" conditions in an Orange County home fueled a fire late Thursday, causing flames to spread to two other homes, officials said.

Firefighters worked overnight to extinguish the stubborn blaze in Garden Grove as it smoldered for hours in a massive pile of debris.

Garden Grove Fire Capt. Jim Gabbard told reporters firefighters found a garage "extremely packed" with vehicles, furniture, debris and other combustible items.

The three-alarm fire was reported about 10 p.m. in the 14400 block of Flower Street, fire officials said. Flames quickly spread to two other homes.

TV news footage of the scene shows a massive pile of debris as well as firefighters working to extinguish large flames.

Tanks of carbon dioxide and oxygen set off small explosions inside one of the home's garage, KTLA-TV reported.

The fire displaced three families and a firefighter suffered minor injuries, KTLA reported.
