June 13--Honeywell System Sensor plans to layoff 252 people at its St. Charles manufacturing facility as it moves production to other facilities, according to a statement from the Morristown, N.J.-based company.
Honeywell makes fire detection and notification products. The company announced the decision to employees in January. Nonproduction employees are expected to stay.
State law requires employers to provide 60 days' notice of pending plant closings or mass layoffs. That applies to businesses with at least 75 full-time employees.
A "mass layoff" is defined as job cuts at a single site during any 30-day period of at least 33 percent of workers and at least 25 employees, or at least 250 employees regardless of the percentage.
A Honeywell spokesperson could not be reached for further comment.
