Nov. 16--"Home Alone," which was released 25 years ago Monday, will be shown in some theaters next month as part of an encore big-screen presentation, Fathom Events announced Monday.
The theater entertainment company hosted screenings of the 1990 movie, which was filmed in Winnetka and written by longtime North Shore resident John Hughes, in more than 600 theaters nationwide during two days last week. The movie, about an 8-year-old boy who has to defend his home from robbers, is scheduled to return to some theaters Dec. 9 at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are slated to go on sale Friday. Theater locations have not been announced but last week's screenings were held at theaters in the Chicago area.
USA Today reported Monday that the showings last week made nearly $600,000. The movie has earned more than $285 million in the United States.
The Chicago Symphony Orchestra is scheduled to perform John Williams' score live along with screenings of the movie Dec. 11-13 at the Symphony Center, 220 S. Michigan Ave.
