April 08--A Red Orchid Theatre announced its 2015-16 season on Wednesday. The three-play roll includes two new works by Ike Holter and Brett Neveu and a lesser-known show by Tennessee Williams.
The fall begins with a new play from Neveu, writer of "The Opponent," "Red Bud" and many others. This family comedy called "Pilgrims Progress" (Oct. 15-Nov. 29) takes place during that most contentious of American meals -- Thanksgiving dinner. Shade Murray will direct the production that will feature Kirsten Fitzgerald.
The next show is set during a different, but no less meaningful holiday: Christmas Eve. That's Williams' rarely-produced (if ever, in Chicago) "The Mutilated" (Jan. 14-Feb. 28, 2016). It takes place at a New Orleans motel, where a woman navigates her turbulent life. The production will be directed by Dado and feature Mierka Girten.
And the season ends on a new play from Holter, writer of "Exit Strategy" and "Hit The Wall," called "Sender" (April 14-May 29, 2016). The drama is set in motion by the return of a young guy, who was thought to be dead, to his former apartment. Murray also directs this production, which will star Steve Haggard.
A Red Orchid Theatre is located at 1531 N. Wells St.
