BRIEF: Heisman Trust elevates USC's Javorius Allen to potential candidate

Nov. 10--Tailback Javorius Allen and USC received letters from the Heisman Trophy Trust informing them that Allen had been elevated to a potential candidate for the award that is presented annually to college football's most outstanding player, a school official said.

Allen, a fourth-year junior from Florida, has rushed for 1,124 yards and eight touchdowns.

He also has 28 receptions for 334 yards and a touchdown.

Allen rushed for 114 yards against Washington State on Nov. 1, becoming the first USC player since Marcus Allen in 1981 to rush for more than 100 yards in six consecutive games.

Marcus Allen won the Heisman in 1981 when he rushed for 2,427 yards.

USC plays California on Thursday night at the Coliseum.
