BRIEF: Harold Washington Library to close Saturday

Dec. 26--Chicago's main library will be closed Saturday as work crews put in an emergency generator.

The power will be temporarily cut at the Harold Washington Library Center at 400 S. State St. so the equipment can be installed, according to Chicago Public Library officials. The project, which the city is paying for with special taxing district money, aims to improve public safety, officials added.

The library will be back open on Sunday. The city's other regional and branch libraries are open regular hours on Saturday.

In addition, the city's public libraries will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, which is New Year's Eve, except for the Galewood-Mont Clare branch. All libraries will be closed New Year's Day, which is Thursday.
