BRIEF: Halcyon Theatre announces 2016-17 season

March 17--Halcyon Theatre has announced its 2016-17 season, including plays by Maria Irene Fornes and Marisela Trevino Orta.

First up is Fornes' "Fefu and Her Friends" (Aug. 18 -- Oct. 8). Artistic director Tony Adams will helm the feminist, promenade play set on a country estate as a group of women gather to rehearse a production for charity.

Debbie Tucker Green's "dirty butterfly" (Nov. 3 -- Dec. 10) follows in a co-U.S. premiere with Chicago company The Blind Owl. Green's tale of voyeurs whose worlds collide will be directed by Azar Kazemi.

The season continues with the Chicago premiere of Orta's "The River Bride" (May 11 -- June 18), in which a strange man emerges from the water in a Brazilian town before a looming wedding.

Closing out the season is a show yet to be announced that will be produced with the Chicago-based A-Squared Theatre Workshop in spring 2017.

Halcyon Theatre is located in residence at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3253 W. Wilson Ave.
