BRIEF: Hairdresser accused of racking up more than $6,000 on elderly client's credit card

April 04--An Elgin hairdresser was ordered held on $200,000 bond Saturday after she was accused of using her elderly client's Discover card to rack up more than $6,000 in fraudulent charges.

Jenifer Perik, 42, of the 300 block of Gladstone Lane, was charged with aggravated identity theft, unlawful use of a credit card, three counts of financial institution fraud and one count of continuing a financial crimes enterprise, according to a news release from the DuPage County state's attorney's office.

Perik had worked as a hairdresser for the 94-year-old victim between August 2014 and January. Perik obtained the victim's Discover credit card when the victim used it to pay for hairdressing services, the release said.

At some point, Perik began using the card without the victim's permission. In total, Perik was accused of using the card more than 35 times for personal purchases totaling more than $6,100, the release said.

Perik's scheme was foiled when the victim noticed unusual charges on her card and contacted the Lisle Police Department, the release said.

Perik appeared at a bail hearing and was ordered held in lieu of $200,000. Her next court date was scheduled for April 27.
