BRIEF: Gurnee-area man seeks to drop guilty plea in child sex case

Nov. 06--The Chicago Tribune Media Group's Lake County News-Sun reports: A man set to be sentenced Wednesday morning under a negotiated agreement for having sexual contact with two minors in Lake County near Gurnee instead asked to drop his plea.

An attorney for Nyasha C. Mbawa, 20, told Lake County Judge James Booras that his client had decided to withdraw his guilty plea to criminal sexual assault charges. Defense attorney Jed Stone then filed that motion.

Under a negotiated plea deal he accepted in April, Mbawa pleaded guilty to one count of predatory criminal sexual assault, a Class X felony, and would have been sentenced to serve between 12 and 30 years in prison.
