BRIEF: Man opens fire at Wendy's drive-thru after car tries to cut in

Aug. 14--A gunman fired shots while waiting at a Wendy's drive-thru on the South Side after a driver tried to cut in line late Thursday, police said.

Two men, 20 and 23, were injured by broken glass and were taken to Stroger Hospital where their conditions were stabilized, police said.

The shooting happened around 11:50 p.m. outside a Wendy's in the 200 block of West Garfield Boulevard in the Fuller Park neighborhood, according to police.

An argument started at the drive-thru after one vehicle tried to cut in line, said Office Ron Gaines, a Chicago Police Department spokesman. A man riding in an SUV fired shots, striking a nearby vehicle, police said.

The SUV, driven by a woman, sped away, police said.

Early Friday, police officers cordoned off a section of the drive-thru and parking lot at the Wendy's. Inside the crime scene, a dark-colored car had its lights on and its rear-end window was shattered.

Officers looked for evidence in and around the car and talked with witnesses.

No one was in custody early Friday.
