BRIEF: Guitar signed by Grateful Dead to be auctioned at Soldier Field show

July 01--A guitar signed by the Grateful Dead will be auctioned Sunday at the band's Soldier Field show.

HeadCount, a nonprofit that works with musicians to promote participation in democracy, and New York-based D'Angelico Guitars are holding a silent auction of a D'Angelico guitar signed by Grateful Dead members Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Phil Lesh and Bob Weir.

The foursome, plus Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio, will play their 50th anniversary shows Friday-Sunday at Soldier Field.

Bidding for the guitar is up to $42,000 after the Grateful Dead concerts in Santa Clara, Ca., last weekend and is expected to surpass $100,000 this weekend in Chicago, a D'Angelico spokeswoman said.

Proceeds will benefit 17 non-profit organizations selected by the Grateful Dead.

Deadheads can view the guitar or bid on it outside section 117 at Soldier Field. The auction closes Sunday at 9:30 p.m.
