Grammys 2015: It's a bumper crop of varied bow ties on the red carpet

This is the red carpet after all, that brought us Lady Gaga arriving in an egg in 2011, Nicki Minaj in head-to-toe leopard the same year, and Jennifer Lopez in a famously gravity-defying plunge-front Versace gown in 2000.
This is the awards show of outrageous, or at least super-sexy, fashion statements. And so far tonight, the Grammys has been Italian fashion's game.
Three best dressed ladies are flying the flag for Italian labels Versace and Emilio Pucci.
FULL COVERAGE: Grammy Awards 2015
One is Gwen Stefani in a black Versace jumpsuit with sculptural, sparkly mesh at the neckline. Also in Versace, Ariana Grande is wearing a white, one-shoulder gown with silver chain-mail embellishment. Another best is Katharine McPhee in a peach crepe gown with a keyhole front, decorated with gold bars by Emilio Pucci. The gown fits her like a glove.
Keep the hits coming.

The moments that might win them an Oscar
Actors receive Academy Awards for great performances, not scenes; at least, that's the party line. But the fact is that in any great acting performance there is a small gem that outshines the rest, one in which a character takes on another dimension and transcends the material. That moment,...

Academy Awards: For J.K. Simmons of 'Whiplash,' the beat never slows
The life of an Oscar nominee is a busy one, indeed. Veteran actor J.K. Simmons had just flown in from Atlanta, where he's filming "The Accountant" with Ben Affleck and Anna Kendrick, and was having a quick breakfast on a January late morning near his Studio City home while nursing a lingering...

The Envy Award winners, because little things can mean a lot
In award season, prizes and nominations flow like Champagne -- usually directed merely at talented actors, directors, writers, producers and a slew of below-the-line experts. But we maintain there are worthy winners of awards who will never get the honor they are due, much less a...

Vivian Maier's photos, explained by her documentary's creators
The Oscar-nominated documentary "Finding Vivian Maier" attempts to uncover the elusive midcentury street photographer whose trove of images was discovered only recently by Chicagoan John Maloof. Maier, who worked as a nanny, had apparently stashed away decades' worth of high-quality images,...

'Virunga' details a complicated story of oil exploration in Congo
When filmmaker Orlando von Einsiedel first arrived in eastern Congo to film what ultimately became the Oscar-nominated documentary "Virunga," he'd hoped to showcase an inspiring story of about 500 lionhearted park rangers who risk their lives to protect UNESCO World Heritage Site Virunga...

On road to the Oscars, director-actor partnerships make their mark
As the adage goes, directing is 90% casting, so it would follow that an equally high percentage of directors make it easier on themselves by casting the same actors again and again. This season, 100% of those re-collaborations have resulted in stellar work. Paul Thomas Anderson wrote the...
