Sept. 20--It's clear now how quickly good feelings can evaporate for Illinois. The first two victories appear to have been a tease after a 48-14 loss Saturday at North Carolina. It now seems that beating Kent State and Western Illinois by a combined 96-3 was more indicative of poor opponents than the Illini's potential.
Offense
D. Illinois put together some long drives but failed to capitalize. Quarterback Wes Lunt completed only 15 of 32 passes for 140 yards with an interception, but dropped passes were also costly. Give some credit to running back Josh Ferguson for 133 rushing yards on 22 carries.
Defense
F. After demolishing its first two opponents, Illinois allowed North Carolina to score with ease and rack up 471 total yards. Quarterback Marquise Williams threw three touchdown passes and ran for 105 yards.
Special teams
F. North Carolina punt returner Ryan Switzer set a school record with 168 yards on returns. Illinois kicker Taylor Zalewski missed two field-goal attempts, including one off the upright.
Coaching
D-. Illinois was ill-prepared to play its first road game of the season against a Power Five conference opponent.
