BRIEF: Google Earth car scorched by incendiary devices

May 20--A Google Earth car and a building were scorched by incendiary devices Thursday on the company's sprawling campus in Northern California, officials said.

The fire was discovered about 10:52 p.m. in the 1500 block of Salado Drive in Mountain View, said Katie Nelson, a spokeswoman for the Mountain View Police Department.

A Google Earth demo car that was parked in front of the building was damaged. Police described the damage as minor and superficial.

Flames also singed a small section of the grounds and a small portion of the building.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire, but fire officials found glass containers and accelerant at the scene, said Lynn Brown, spokesman for the Mountain View Fire Department.

The devices were sent to a lab for testing.

Google Earth cars, also called Street View cars, travel across the U.S. and world to capture 360-degree panoramic views of cities and landmarks.
