BRIEF: Goodman announces all-female Playwrights Unit

Sept. 28--Goodman Theatre has announced the first all-female group of playwrights to be named as part of its sixth Playwrights Unit.

The newly-named members include: Kristiana Rae Colon, Chicago Dramatists resident playwright and executive director of the #LetUsBreathe collective; Sandra Delgado, ensemble member of Teatro Vista and founding member of Collaboraction; Jenni Lamb, artistic associate at Route 66 and member of Living Room Playmakers; and Calamity West, whose plays have received productions with companies including Jackalope Theatre and Sideshow Theatre.

The Playwrights Unit offers Chicago playwrights a year-long residency to foster new work with the Goodman's artistic team. The group will meet twice a month and their work will culminate in public staged readings held in summer 2016.

Alum Nambi E. Kelley authored "For Her As a Piano" as a 2012 member of the Playwrights Unit. The female-centric tale of one woman's journey to unravel three generation's worth of untold stories will open Pegasus Theatre's 2015-16 season. Notable alumni also include Bonnie Metzgar (2014-15 season), Greg Allen (2012-13 season) and Ike Holter (2012-13 season).
