BRIEF: Golden State Coach Luke Walton's Mercedes-Benz stolen as part of crime spree

Nov. 25--Golden State Warriors interim Coach Luke Walton might be riding high now that his team has set an NBA record with 16 straight wins to start a season.

But he's apparently not doing that riding in his Mercedes-Benz. That was stolen Nov. 17, Alameda County Dist. Atty. Nancy O'Malley said late Monday.

Police believe the crime was committed by the same two suspects who two days later attacked a 75-year-old woman and stole her car. Both crimes took place in the Montclair neighborhood of Oakland Hills.

Two people were arrested Friday but another Montclair family was burglarized while they slept that night.

As for Walton, the former Laker's own father didn't even know about the robbery until a week later. Bill Walton was calling the UNLV-Chaminade game from the Maui Invitational for ESPN2 on Tuesday when play-by-play man Jon Sciambi asked his broadcast partner if his son's car had been recovered.

After a brief silence, Bill Walton asked: "What happened? What are you talking about?"

Sciambi answered, "I think something happened to his car, I believe."

"To Luke's car?" Bill Walton said. "I have no idea. I didn't even know he had a car."
