BRIEF: Give us Zemgus: NHL All-Star balloting has surprise leader

Dec. 02--The leader in fan voting for the 2015 NHL All-Star game isn't Sidney Crosby or Evgeni Malkin.

Not you, either, Patrick Kane or Jonathan Toews.

Per a league news release issued Tuesday afternoon, the top vote-getter after two weeks of voting is forward Zemgus Girgensons of the Buffalo Sabres.

Oh, THAT Zemgus Girgensons.

Maybe folks who were snowbound in Buffalo last week had time to electronically stuff the ballot box, or maybe all of Latvia has gotten behind its favorite hockey son. But Girgensons had 399,356 total votes, according to the NHL, enough to lift him past Week One leader P.K. Subban of Montreal, who had 240,362 votes.

Chicago Blackhawks teammates Kane (216,261), Toews (212,994), Duncan Keith (208,086), Corey Crawford (174,466) and Brent Seabrook (154,865) dominated the top 10 in the nearly 8.5 million votes cast from 170 countries.

Here's the full release, with the vote totals.

Girgensons, a first-round pick by the Sabres in 2012, has seven goals and 13 points in 24 games.
