BRIEF: Girl Scouts, Quaker Oats team to offer cookie-flavored granola bars

Aug. 07--Girl Scout cookies can turn you into the ravenous Cookie Monster shouting, "Me want cookie! Om, nom, nom, nom."

What happens when your stash is gone and you're craving chocolaty Thin Mints or coconut Samoas? Grab a granola bar.

Chicago-based Quaker Oats, a subsidiary of PepsiCo, for the first time has partnered with the Girl Scouts of the USA to add the two cookie-inspired flavors to its chewy granola bars.

The caramel coconut granola bars went on sale this month at select retailers including Target and Jewel and will be in stores nationwide in January. Quaker's Thin Mint bars, featuring a hint of mint chocolate flavor, hit store shelves in June at $3.29 for an 8-bar box.

The granola bars are slightly less expensive than the $4 box of Girl Scout cookies, have less calories per serving and probably come with a little less guilt since you're not devouring an entire box of cookies.
