BRIEF: Girl, 3, dies after falling from fifth-story balcony at Anaheim hotel

July 20--A 3-year-old girl died Saturday after falling from a fifth-floor balcony at a hotel in Anaheim, authorities said.

Stephanie Martinez suffered traumatic injuries and died as a result of an accidental fall, according to the Orange County coroner's office.

Stephanie climbed over the 3- to 4-foot balcony or in between the railing before falling five stories and landing in the courtyard of the Embassy Suites in the 3100 block of East Frontera Street, Anaheim police Lt. Eric Trapp said.

When firefighters arrived about 6:30 p.m., they found the injured 3-year-old girl. She was taken to UC Irvine Medical Center, where she later died.

The girl and her family were in town visiting relatives and had been staying at the hotel.

Detectives determined the girl's death "appears to be a tragic accident," Trapp said.
