BRIEF: Girl, 17, critically hurt after being hit by Metra train in Hinsdale

Dec. 14--A 17-year-old girl was critically injured after being struck by a Metra train near Hinsdale Saturday evening, officials said.

Just after 7 p.m., Hinsdale's police and fire officials responded to reports of a pedestrian being struck by a train on Metra's Burlington Northern Santa Fe railway near the Garfield Crossing at Hinsdale Avenue and Stough Street, according to Hinsdale fire officials and a statement from the Hinsdale Police Department.

The 17-year-old was transported to Adventist Hinsdale Hospital and then transferred to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, according to the statement.

The teenager was listed in critical condition.

Police are investigating the incident. Witnesses said traffic had been snarled in the area just after the incident.
