BRIEF: Girl, 12, critically injured after pickup truck strikes her in Lake County

May 28--A 12-year-old girl was critically injured Friday after she was struck by a pickup truck in Gages Lake in unincorporated Lake County, sheriff's officials said.

The accident happened at 2:43 p.m on Gages Lake and Almond Roads, in the far northern suburb.

Lake County Sheriff's deputies said when they arrived they located a 12 year-old girl with critical injuries.

According to a preliminary investigation witness said that at the time of the incident the traffic light was green for traffic on Gages Lake Road. The girl was walking southbound and crossing Gages Lake Road.

The driver of the Chevrolet Pick-Up truck was traveling eastbound on Gages Lake Road and was unable to avoid striking the girl. The girl was struck by the front-end of the pick-up truck, according to sheriff's officials.

The girl was initially taken to Condell Hospital in Libertyville and later flown to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, with critical injuries.

The investigation is on-going by the Lake County Sheriff's Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
