Sept. 17--The Ferris wheel that's lifted millions of Chicagoans close to the moon will soon say farewell -- but not without a pizza party.
In honor of the Navy Pier wheel's last spin on Sunday, Sept. 27 (it's being replaced next summer with a new, taller wheel), Giordano's has created a "Wheel Miss You" pizza topped with cheese in a Ferris wheel design.
Sept. 25 to 27, dine-in guests at the Giordano's Pizza at Navy Pier (700 E. Grand Ave.) can purchase the large deep-dish pie for $23.75.
To top off the fun that weekend, Navy Pier is hosting a "Last Ride, First Bite" event 1-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Get free samples from Giordano's and other restaurants on the Pier, including Brown Sugar Bakery, DMK Burger Bar, Fish Bar and Porkchop.
Ride the Ferris wheel one last time for free overnight from 10 p.m. Saturday evening until 9:45 a.m. Sunday morning. A fireworks show at 8 p.m. Sunday will salute the old wheel, which has been on Navy Pier since 1995.
