BRIEF: Get your MacGyver on with handy multitool

March 31--The Kelvin multitool is more like a whole toolbox that begs to go on car trips, cycling, boating excursions and more. (If it wants to be on an airplane trip, best to pack in checked luggage.)

Picture a carbon steel hammer, a multiposition screwdriver with 15 interchangeable drive heads, a 6-foot retractable metal tape measure, an LED flashlight and a liquid level, all compactly integrated into a 5 1/4-by-2-by-1-inch-thick base.

Push a button, and out springs the screwdriver (army-knife style), which can lock straight or at a 90-degree angle. Beneath the hinged lid are rows of standard and specialized drive heads. The tape measure pulls out from the base, and the level is built into the top of the lid. Grab the whole thing, and the metal disk jutting out from the base becomes a heavy duty hammer.

The Kelvin comes in two models: the 23 and the 36, which denote how many tools each has. (The 36 includes such items as a corkscrew and a bottle opener.) The Kelvin.23 costs $29.99; Kelvin.36, $49.99.
