April 12--Does 43 degrees count as ice cream weather? The answer is always yes, but especially so today: It's Ben Jerry's Free Cone Day.
Starting at noon Tuesday, the Vermont-based creamery is doling out free ice cream at its Navy Pier and Glenview locations until 8 p.m. (Sorry, Midway travelers. For those of you stuck in the airport with an ice cream craving, that location is not participating.)
Started in 1979 but at first limited to Vermont locations, Ben and Jerry's Free Cone Day has since exploded into a global phenomenon. Last year, the company scooped out more than a million servings, but it stands to do more this year: This is the first event including Ben Jerry's nondairy offerings.
600 E. Grand Ave., Navy Pier, 312-836-0992; 1860 Tower Drive, Glenview, 847-657-8474.
