BRIEF: George R.R. Martin assures fans he's not the George Martin who died

March 09--George R.R. Martin, whose novels inspired the HBO series "Game of Thrones," sought to assure fans Wednesday that he's still alive amid confusion stemming from the death of George Martin, the longtime producer for The Beatles.

"While it is strangely moving to realize that so many people around the world care so deeply about my life and death, I have to go with Mark Twain and insist that the rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated," Martin wrote on his Live Journal blog.

George Martin, who has been called "the fifth Beatle," died Tuesday at the age of 90.

George R.R. Martin, 67, was recently honored by his alma mater Northwestern University.

"I am still here, still writing, still editing, still going to movies and reading books, and I expect to hang around for quite a while yet, thank you very much," Martin wrote.

The sixth season of "Game of Thrones" is scheduled to premiere April 24.
