Jan. 30--A fire in a garage Thursday evening in the Logan Square neighborhood has resulted in the loss of Comcast cable and Internet service to about 4,000 homes and businesses, officials said.
The fire began at about 6 p.m. and was confined to a two-car garage behind a home on the 3600 block of Diversey Avenue, said Chicago Fire Department Spokesman Larry Langford.
It took firefighters about 15 minutes to put out the fire which started to spread to a coach house before it was extinguished, Langford said. But the fire managed to burn and melt a box containing cables on a pole in the alley behind the structure, he said.
Comcast Spokesman Joe Trost said the affected cable knocked out service to 4,000 customers in the area including homes and businesses. Crews were dispatched to the area and are working to restore service which is expected sometime Thursday evening.
There were no injuries in the fire and no other damage to property, said Langford.
