July 28--The Galaxy will be represented by three players in Wednesday's Major League Soccer All-Star Game. But it won't be the three who were originally selected to the team.
On Tuesday forward Robbie Keane and midfielder Steven Gerrard withdrew with injuries and were replaced by teammates Gyasi Zardes and Juninho. They will join defender Omar Gonzalez for the game against English Premier League squad Tottenham in suburban Denver.
The All-Star selection is the first for Zardes, who has spent most of July playing with the U.S. national team in the CONCACAF Gold Cup. Zardes has four goals and two assists in 18 games for the Galaxy.
Juninho will be playing in his third All-Star Game. He is the only player to have appeared in all 23 MLS matches for the Galaxy this season.
Both Keane and Gerrard had been scheduled to fly to Colorado on Monday night but neither left Southern California. They reported instead to the StubHub Center early Tuesday to receive treatment for their injuries.
The injuries are not considered serious.
