Oct. 02--Friday's top high school football games
West Hills Chaminade (3-1, 0-0) at Los Angeles Loyola (4-1, 0-1), 7 p.m.
It's still early in the season but already must-win time for both schools in this Mission League game. There's only three Pac-5 playoff spots guaranteed, and both teams face tough tests ahead. Chaminade has lots of sophomores who need to grow up fast. Expect a battle of the running backs, sophomore T.J. Pledger of Chaminade vs. junior Drake Beasley of Loyola.
The pick: Loyola.
San Clemente (4-1) at Tesoro (4-1), 7:30 p.m. (Prime Ticket)
Arizona-bound quarterback Devon Modster of Tesoro makes things happen with his legs and arm. San Clemente has balance on offense. Tesoro has played a much tougher nonleague schedule.
The pick: Tesoro.
Palisades (2-2) at Chatsworth (4-0), 7 p.m.
The Chancellors have scored 60, 47, 62 and 50 points in their four games, led by quarterback Tyger Goslin, who has 16 touchdown passes, and running back Tawan Funches, who has 502 yards rushing. They open West Valley League play next week, so this will be a final tuneup. Palisades can pass behind P.J. Hurst.
The pick: Chatsworth.
