BRIEF: Friday's recap: Rockies 5, White Sox 2

March 14--The summary

The Sox lost their third straight game, 5-2 to the Rockies, to fall to 3-6-2 despite 2-2/3 scoreless innings from Jose Quintana in a strong start.

At the plate

Jose Abreu's line drive to center got past Drew Stubbs and went to the wall, giving him a shot at an inside-the-park homer. But Abreu was held at third rather than risk a leg injury. Courtney Hawkins (1-for-3) is hitting .444.

On the mound

The bullpen was shaky again. Daniel Webb allowed three runs in 2/3rds of an inning. Webb has allowed a run in three of his four appearances.

In the field

Hawkins made an error in left, and catcher Geovany Soto threw out a runner on a steal attempt.

Key number

.053. Gordon Beckham was 0-for-3 and is 1-for-19 this spring.

The quote

"There are some at-bats to go around and he's going to get quite a few of them, and he has done well with them." -- manager Robin Ventura on Hawkins.

Up next

At Angels, 3:10 p.m. Saturday in Tempe. RH Brad Penny vs. LH Andrew Heaney.
