BRIEF: Friday's recap: Cubs 8, Cardinals 3

Sept. 19--The summary

The Cubs beat the Cardinals 8-3 as Starlin Castro hit two homers and drove in six runs Friday at Wrigley Field. The Cubs moved to within 11/2 games of the Pirates for the first wild-card spot, pending Pittsburgh's late game at Los Angeles.

On the mound

Dan Haren lasted only 41/3 innings, giving up a three-run lead after one inning. Zac Rosscup walked home the tying run in the fifth before the Cubs retook the lead for good in the bottom half of the inning.

At the plate

Castro tied his single-game high in RBIs, set in his major-league debut in 2010. His two-run homer in the fifth gave the Cubs the lead, and his three-run shot in the sixth made it 8-3.

In the field

Anthony Rizzo made his third error in his last seven games in the second.

Heating up

Matt Belisle hit Rizzo with a pitch in the seventh and Rizzo made a couple of steps toward the mound. Belisle and Cardinals manager Mike Matheny were ejected because warnings had been issued after Haren beaned Matt Holliday in the fifth.
