BRIEF: Four similar commercial burglaries hit Irving Park, Mayfair

Dec. 18--Police are warning business owners on the Northwest Side of a series of burglaries in the area over the past month.

Four commercial burglaries occurred in Irving Park and Mayfair neighborhoods between Nov. 23 and Tuesday, according to an alert from the Chicago Police Department's Office of News Affairs.

In these incidents, unknown offenders forcibly entered a cellphone store either by throwing a brick through the front window or prying open the rear door, according to the statement. The thieves then would steal cellphones and other merchandise from the store.

The first burglary happened around 10 p.m. on Nov. 23 in the 3700 block of North Elston Avenue, and the second incident occurred around 1:35 a.m. Dec. 3 in the 3900 block of North Kimball Avenue, authorities said.

The third incident happened around 1:55 a.m. Dec. 12 in the 4000 block of West Montrose Avenue, the latest burglary took place around 7:21 a.m. Tuesday on the same block and street.

Anyone with information should call Area North detectives at 312-744-8263.

Police encourage business owners to equip their establishments with a working video surveillance system and a burglar alarm.
